Thailand Travel Tales eBook Timothy Bull Reviews

No wonder the only review thus far is from the author (and I use that word loosely). The only reason I gave this two stars instead of one is because it only set me back US$5, and there were a few paragraphs I actually found interesting and from the heart. But this Timothy Bull could only be considered a writer on his very best days.

First, I resent when these e-books I pay money for include tons of information I could get on-line for free myself. Cribbing this stuff and calling it legitimate information is a disgrace. Providing a link would more than suffice, but then, when your book is just the dregs from your disjointed blog, I guess you've got to fill the pages with something to make it all seem legit.

The stories themselves aren't always terrible -- some even include of few anecdotes and factoids that I actually enjoyed. As a full-time resident of Thailand, even I learned one or two things and found a smile coming to my face on two or three occasions. But this guy clearly needs an editor. At least two stories were printed in two versions each -- one about Thai toilets (a hint about the quality of this book), and one about his "4 Cat" review system for restaurants.

And there are a plethora of typos, grammatical and style errors -- a real mess.

Having kept a travel blog for several years, I have pained over the process of creating a book from my entries. I wanted some kind of theme that ran through it, I wanted to make sure the grammar and style were pristine, and I didn't want to rely on sucking people in with hype that the book could simply not deliver in terms of content. This Mr. Bull made no such efforts. Perhaps I should just smack together all of my blog entries, claim it contained tons of great information and entertaining tales, and make an e-book of it. But my pride and conscience would not let me.

Despite the book being dated 2011, most if the small amount of original information provided -- not to mention the settings of the anecdotes -- were at least four years old.

If the blurb for the book was honest, it would read "Compilation of dated blog entries from wanna-be writer, along with some information gleaned from publicly available on-line sources. Heartfelt in spots, and even informative about an AIDS program for kids and the Thai elephant problem, but mostly not much different from the kind of stories you hear from countless occupants of barstools in Bangkok and Pattaya."
