Hearts at Play Hugh Braden Love in Bloom The Bradens Book 6 edition by Melissa Foster Literature Fiction eBooks
HEARTS AT PLAY is book six in Melissa Foster's "The Bradens" contemporary romance series. This one focuses on race car driver Hugh Braden and single mother Brianna Heart. Hugh lives the standard wealthy playboy lifestyle--lots of cash, fast cars and women. But he's getting weary of all the flash and glamour. I wouldn't say he's actively looking for true love. More that he's at that point where people who've found success stop and ask, "Is this all there is?" Brianna is a waitress in a bar in rural Virginia, not too far from one of Hugh's homes. He comes in for a (disastrously funny) blind date and falls for Bree. But she's given up on men and dating--at least until her young daughter hits eighteen. And so begins a race for Happily Ever After.
As we've come to expect from Foster, HEARTS AT PLAY is populated with likable, well-realized characters. Even Bree's daughter (Layla) lives and breathes and has an active part in the story. Too often kids in romance novels are no more than window dressing, or, worse, a means to evoke instant reader emotion--just add "cute" and stir! Foster is a better writer than that. She builds Hugh's relationship with Layla in parallel to his relationship with her mother, and we see all three characters blossom.
Another way HEARTS AT PLAY stands out is in the focus on Hugh's point of view. Usually it's the heroine of a romance novel who gets the most air time. Here, though, attention is weighted toward Hugh's efforts to come to grips with his changing personal values and his determination to win over Bree...and Layla.
This book doesn't have the thematic heft of some of the others in the series. Both LOVERS AT HEART and SEA OF LOVE deal with scary real-world situations like sexual violence and serious phobias--the kind of crippling fear that scars the memory and stifles living. HEARTS AT PLAY is lighter. The conflict can seem a little forced in places. The kind of molehills-for-mountains stuff that makes you want to knock the main characters' heads together and order them to get over themselves.
On the whole, though, HEARTS AT PLAY is a fun, touching book. Well worth an afternoon curled up on the sofa with your Kindle and a cup of tea.

Hearts at Play Hugh Braden Love in Bloom The Bradens Book 6 edition by Melissa Foster Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Hugh Braden is a race car driver that prefers to stay out of the spotlight when away from the track. In an attempt to do this, he finds himself seeking out a quiet place to meet a blind date. This is where he meets Brianna Heart. Bri is a waitress, photographer, and mother that works 2 jobs to give her daughter Layla a stable environment. At first sight, Hugh and Bri feel a connection. Hugh’s blind date ends quickly and he is drawn back to the tavern, seeking out Bri.
Over the course of the next few days, Hugh returns frequently, learning more about Bri and falling farther for her every time they are together. Bri has many walls up in an effort to protect Layla as well as to protect herself. Hugh works to make those walls crumble, brick by brick!
I truly enjoyed listening to this audio book after reading the print version when it was first released!
I initially read this beautiful love story by Melissa Foster a couple years ago, and recently had the opportunity to get the audiobook and rediscover Hugh and Breanna’s story. Bree is a single mom, doing her best to raise her daughter and find her way. I love BJ Harrison’s narration of the characters—you can feel the chemistry coming through in the story. Even though Hugh is living the life of a no-strings bachelor race car driver, his Braden family upbringing and values shine through and he falls for her. But, can he convince her to set aside her 12 year plan of putting her daughter first? They can’t deny their desire to be together and the love developing, but they have a lot to consider in trying to bring together their two worlds.
I Absolutely LOVE Melissa's LOVE IN BLOOM Series! And add BJ Harrison narrating and, BAM, What a combo!!!
Hugh is the youngest of the Braden bunch. Being the youngest, he's lived his life on his own terms, not worrying about what anyone thought of him or worrying about repercussions of his actions. But he's tired of that life. He's watched every one of siblings fall in love and he's come to realize that, while his life has been fulfilling, career-wise, his personal life has been lacking.
Brianna has not only herself to think about, but she's got Layla, her daughter, to take into account. because of that, she's put off letting any guy into her life until her daughter is old enough to not 'damage' her in any way.
When Bree & Hugh meet, it's kismet! Not only does Hugh walk into Bree's life at JUST the right time, she enters his with just as much gusto.
B.J. brings out the feelings in Bree & Hugh as they navigate these new roads of their lives to understand each other and how their lives belong intertwined. BEAUTIFUL STORY!!!
I'm running out of new things to say about Melissa Foster's audiobooks of the Braden's. Each one gets better and better and I fall more and more in love with the Braden family. I just love how she keeps the story going and includes just enough about previous couples. Hearts at Play is the baby Braden's story and he doesn't disappoint. Hugh and Brianna are perfect for each other. I hope Cat gets a book one day! She is a great secondary character and deserves a book of her own. Hint hint...
I'm glad we get a romance book without all the drama that other authors put in books, Thankfully Melissa doesn't do that. So on to BJ Harrison and his narrating of this fantastic story. As always he has outdone himself and I simply love his voice and even more for Layla, I'm not sure if it's meant or not but some of his words gives Layla a lisps and I love it. His voice changes for all the characters and it's good but His narrating of Layla and Hal are my favorite and I don't think he will be able to do any others as good, but If he does I will be the first to praise him for it. I don't have enough words to say how much I love this one. I highly recommend Hearts at Play in book and audio, you will love it, both are fantastic. Thanks Melissa.
